This time I have visited Drivelife Events for the 2024 "Bakkies and Bolides". An event derived from the Cars & Coffee phenomenon where all kinds of, cars with a story come together. Not neatly behind a fence or bollards, but simply driving, which is what they were made for. A concept developed by and for petrolheads, with the aim of bringing together a very high diversity of unique cars with their owners and thus reducing the gap between the different groups of cars. This is the world’s most insane drift car. A mutated McLaren, it’s the brainchild of ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett, with a little help from McLaren experts Lanzante and luxury car specialists O’Gara Coach. Now, a McLaren P1 drift car would have been silly enough, but ‘MadMac’ (as it’s affectionately known) fuses a P1 body with a 650S GT3 carbon chassis for the added protection of the latter’s roll cage. Oh, and then whatever McLaren V8 you were expecting has been ditched for a turbocharged, triple-rotor set-up.
