TESLA'S "UNBOXING" - THE REVOLUTION SET TO OVERTURN A CENTURY-OLD PRODUCTION METHOD

Thanks to Unboxing, Tesla would challenge the century-old assembly line principle of Ford and bring about a fundamental change in car production as reported by the Austrian ORF.

'Unboxing' means that cars are built from the inside out

This new method of production, in which the car is built from the inside out, could enable Tesla to break into the real mass market. By 2030, the company plans to increase its annual delivery to 20 million vehicles and thus become the largest car manufacturer in the world. The method is currently being developed under the name 'NV9X' in Tesla's Texan Gigafactory and is still largely secret.

However, there are doubts about the feasibility of the Unboxing approach, the ORF continues. For example experts pointed out that consistent corrosion protection would hardly be possible when using pre-painted body parts. Nevertheless, Tesla has already successfully introduced the 'Gigacasting' process which replaces individual parts with a single cast of aluminum. This concept is now also being used by General Motors and other manufacturers.

Elon Musk wants to make Tesla the world's number one

Reuters recently reported that Tesla had halted the development of its affordable compact model for $25,000. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk rejected this report and announced that the company would continue to work on an autonomous robot taxi that would be based on the Unboxing technology.

The introduction of this revolutionary production method could bring about a turnaround at a time when Tesla is financially struggling. Tesla's sales dropped by more than eight percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. The company's stock is among the worst performers in the U.S. stock index S&P 500. With Elon Musk, many shareholders hope that Unboxing will provide the answer to Tesla's problems.
