You'll know Lucid from its ultra-spacious, slippery Air saloon, which can hit 60 in 1.9 seconds and is very probably the best-handling electric family car on sale today. 10 out of 10, no notes. So, how does the new Gravity SUV – Lucid's difficult second album – stack up? Well, it's a little early for a full drive (stick around for a drive of the prototype later in the video) but here's what we do know. It'll use the next generation of Lucid tiny-but mighty bespoke motors. There’s a 900-volt architecture for fast charging speeds, and it'll be able to accelerate to 60mph in less than 3.5sec in the quicker versions. Base models will start from $74k, with 'around 800bhp.' Inside there’s screens galore, and four rows of seats (sort of). All very impressive. All very Tesla, you might think. But what sets Lucid apart? FIRST DRIVE: Porsche Macan Turbo - As Fast As A 911 GT3!
This is Porsche’s most important launch since the Mk1 Cayenne. Why? Because even as a decade-old model at the end of its life, Porsche shifted 87,355 units of its smaller SUV in 2023, just a few hundred shy of the Cayenne. But now the second-gen Macan is going electric, and the buying public hasn’t wholly embraced EVs… Perhaps more challenging still, while the last Macan was priced from £54k to £73k in the UK, the new one starts at £70k and runs up to exactly £95,000 for the range-topping Turbo model (which doesn’t have a turbocharger anywhere near it). Sure, you get more performance, but the last Macan was a (relatively) affordable entry point into practical Porsche ownership; the new one is only £600 cheaper than a Cayenne! So it’s electric, and expensive. Can the tech impress and the dynamics dazzle enough to tempt potential buyers? Zonda. Huayra. A succinct but epic bloodline for the next Pagani hypercar to follow. And there’s much promise too, for the new Utopia: a twin-turbo, AMG-supplied V12 with 846bhp; a carbo-titanium monocoque; even the option of a manual gearbox… Only 99 will be built, each costing around £2.2m a pop. But is it a piece of automotive art, too delectable to be driven?
