On the edge of Detroit, USA, is a rather special family and their rather special car collection. But the vehicles (mostly Fords, but not all) in the Roush Automotive Collection aren’t just any old cars collected by Jack Roush and his family. Rather, they’re race cars that his ultra-successful NASCAR team has taken to ‘Victory Lane’ and road cars that his eponymous tuning company has built. Add in a smattering of cars the family has restored or competed in, and you’ve got an amazing array of fast metal. The car’s a first-generation Nissan Leaf, and Mat bought it through Carwow for just £1,500. When it was first released it would have cost from around £21,000, and that even included a £5,000 government grant! So even though it wasn’t the most expensive car when it was first released, there’s no denying Mat managed to pick this one up for a bit of a bargain! As new, the Nissan Leaf came with a 24kWh battery pack that was good for a claimed range of up to 124 miles. It also had a single electric motor that drove the front wheels only and was able to put down 109hp. The question is, with the maximum claimed range already relatively low, will Mat have any chance of reaching his final destination? And what exactly will happen when the car finally runs out of charge? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! FIRST LOOK: 2025 Corvette ZR1 – 1064hp, Turbos & 215mph!
Wow, the new Corvette ZR1 is quite something. For a start, one thousand and sixty-four horsepower is nothing short of A LOT. In fact, it’s nearly 400 more than the Corvette Z06, and higher than the likes of the Ferrari SF90 XX, let alone hybrid-assisted hypercars such as the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918. And yet, all that power comes from a solitary 5.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8, with not a jot of a hybrid system in sight. FIRST DRIVE: Ford GT Mk IV - $1.7m, 800bhp Ultimate American Supercar!
This is the ultimate incarnation of the third-generation Ford GT – and a homage to the Mk IV iteration of the original GT40, which won Le Mans in 1967. Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each. It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp.
