Able to hit 195 mph in the quarter-mile (at 7.715s), Kerr’s hottest of hatches also runs a mind-melting 216 mph in the half-mile. But this is a story about resilience, too. He’ll be testing out this all-new 4x4 both on & off-road to see if it has what it takes to compete with class leaders like the Suzuki Jimny & Mercedes G-Class! So let’s take a closer look… Starting with the design, the Land Cruiser looks seriously rugged on the outside. It rolls up with a boxy-style design, coupled with a huge rear bumper and massive windows along the side and back to help let loads of light in. As you’d expect with a proper 4x4 it also comes with roof bars as well as running boards along the side, while up from the grille design harks back to the classic Land Cruiser design. It looks great! Step inside and there’ll be no mistaking that you’re in a Land Cruiser. The dash design mirrors the chunky looks of the exterior, and there’s even padding on the centre console so you don’t damage your knees when off-roading! There’s a fair bit of scratchy plastics throughout the place, but that can be forgiven because there are SO many physical buttons! Almost everything is controlled with a button rather than through the infotainment screen - just like the old days! The infotainment system itself is ok, and there are also digital dials for the driver, too. There’s only one engine available for the Land Cruiser - it’s a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel that can produce 204hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. We don’t know the price of the Land Cruiser yet, but we expect it to cost in the region of £55,000 - £60,000. So is it worth it? Stick with Mat and see for yourself! FIRST DRIVE: Lucid Gravity – 1,000bhp Tesla Model X Rival
You'll know Lucid from its ultra-spacious, slippery Air saloon, which can hit 60 in 1.9 seconds and is very probably the best-handling electric family car on sale today. 10 out of 10, no notes. So, how does the new Gravity SUV – Lucid's difficult second album – stack up? Well, it's a little early for a full drive (stick around for a drive of the prototype later in the video) but here's what we do know. It'll use the next generation of Lucid tiny-but mighty bespoke motors. There’s a 900-volt architecture for fast charging speeds, and it'll be able to accelerate to 60mph in less than 3.5sec in the quicker versions. Base models will start from $74k, with 'around 800bhp.' Inside there’s screens galore, and four rows of seats (sort of). All very impressive. All very Tesla, you might think. But what sets Lucid apart? It’s an all-new MPV from Lexus, and Mat is about to find out if this luxurious people carrier has what it takes to compete with top-class saloons such as the Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series. When it comes to the design, there isn’t much to say about the rear or sides. It comes with smatterings of chrome about the place, along with a rear spoiler, but otherwise, this people carrier is relatively boxy and nondescript. However, once you step around to the front, you’re greeted by Lexus’s trademark HUGE grille! This helps make it super imposing on the road, and it also comes flanked by high-tech matrix LED headlights. The interior quality for the driver is pretty decent. There’s lots of leather throughout the cabin, as well as a large infotainment screen and digital dial display. There’s a fairly decent amount of interior storage, too, and the seats are incredibly comfortable. However, step into the back and you'll find that comfort is absolutely next level. We’ve got our hands on the range-topping Takumi edition, which comes with just two business class-style seats. There’s a huge screen that spans the length of the cabin, coupled with several speakers, including two huge speakers built into each door! The seats can recline fully flat, window shades are built in, and there is absolutely loads of storage! This is truly the way to travel in first-class style on the road. When it comes to the engine choice, there’s only one. It’s a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that comes with a CVT gearbox as well as an electric motor. There is the option to add an additional electric motor to offer four-wheel drive, but interestingly, both the single motor and dual motor offer 250hp! The Lexus LM isn’t cheap. It starts from £90,000, raising to £113,000 for the range-topper! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! LIFT OFF: 700bhp F-150 Raptor R vs Ford Bronco RAPTOR
The Bronco Raptor is a formidable beast – wider than most buildings, and powered by a 412bhp twin-turbo V6 – it’s therefore perfect for doing silly things in the sand and dirt. The F-150 Raptor R, with its 700bhp 5.2-litre supercharged V8, even more so. So we stuck Jack Rix in the former, Jethro Bovingdon in the latter, and told them to go shredding in the infinite off-road playground that is Johnson Valley, California. Things get a little hairier when Jack asks Jethro to “show him the way of the jump”. ALSO in episode two: The Bronco DR is a bona fide off-the-shelf desert racer (hence the name), meaning for a mere $295,000 you could own a competition-ready, Coyote 5.0-litre V8 powered, off-road racecar capable of conquering pretty much any terrain this side of the moon. Or you could ask Ford very nicely to borrow one, insert Jethro in the middle of the Californian desert, light the touch paper and retire to a safe distance as he demonstrates what makes this car so special...
