FIRST DRIVE: Ford GT Mk IV - $1.7m, 800bhp Ultimate American Supercar!

This is the ultimate incarnation of the third-generation Ford GT – and a homage to the Mk IV iteration of the original GT40, which won Le Mans in 1967. Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each. It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp. The arrival of the new Temerario – a replacement for the Huracán – now means Lamborghini offers all its models with hybrid powertrains. Hmmm… But fret not, for this is Lambo’s take on hybridisation. So, while the Huracán's naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 has been swapped for a mere 4.0-litre V8, it has gained twin turbos and over 150bhp in the process. And, just for good measure, Lamborghini has allied it to not one, not two, but three electric motors, for a 907bhp total. Wow, the new Corvette ZR1 is quite something. For a start, one thousand and sixty-four horsepower is nothing short of A LOT. Tesla are back with a brand-new Model 3, and we got to check it out on a recent trip to Texas. It does 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds and has had a host of new updates on both the interior and exterior. It has a brand new features like an infotainment screen in the back as well as a newly updated steering wheel.
